Currently, Hokkaido is seeing an increasing number of railway closures due to declining local populations and the rise of motorization. This project focuses on the soon-to-be-abandoned rail lines around Yoichi Station in Yoichi Town. The goal is to harmonize two seemingly opposing elements: the site’s natural return to the earth and the quiet preservation of its identity as a railway.This proposal seeks a new approach to memorials—one that transcends conventional methods, such as merely preserving sections of track or converting the land into entirely new structures like cycling paths. Instead, it aims to find a way to let the memory of the railway linger quietly within the landscape as it reverts to nature.
