埼玉県さいたま市北区に位置する大宮盆栽町は、1923年の関東大震災で被害を受けた盆栽業者が壊滅した東京を離れ、関東ローム層の良質な赤土や水、新鮮な空気に恵まれた大宮の地に移転し形成された、盆栽業者と盆栽愛好家が集まる町である。
一方で、近年の宅地化による盆栽村らしい景観が失われつつあること、全盛期30戸あった盆栽園が6戸まで減少してしまっていること、街路樹の強剪定などの課題もある。
本研究では、盆栽という地域産業を象徴とする街路空間のデザインを提案するとともに、盆栽文化を継承するためのまちづくりについて考える。
Omiya Bonsai-cho, located in Kita-ku, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, is a gathering place for bonsai vendors and bonsai enthusiasts.
The town was formed when bonsai growers who suffered damage by the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 left the devastated Tokyo and relocated to Omiya, which is blessed with good red soil, water, and fresh air from the Kanto Loam Formation.
On the other hand, there are some problems such as the loss of the landscape typical of a bonsai village due to recent residential land development, the decrease in the number of bonsai gardens from 30 in its heyday to 6, and the strong pruning of street trees.
This study proposes a design for street space that symbolizes the local industry of bonsai, and considers town planning for the continuation of bonsai culture.
